The Visitor’s center for the Bruce Peninsula National park is worth a trip. It’s little over a km walk from downtown Tobermory, you will really enjoy the Theater there… do not miss that movie, “living on the edge”. …and start learning about the park…The Lookout tower, 112 steps up to this 20 meter high platform, gets you to those breathtaking gorgeous views of Georgian Bay. Pick a bright sunny day and you will thank me for that. Some of you who won’t mind carrying their fully loaded DSLR’s with 200 mm zoom lens can capture it all.
Usually we kayak here at the Dorcas Bay on a calm day but Cyprus Lake is an alternate if it’s windy here. You can lead to the larger Cameron Lake though these navigable streams. An experience hard to put in words.
Anyone into Bouldering Folks? Then these shoreline boulders at Half Log Dump is the place to go. It’s a designated bouldering area in a remote setting on Georgian Bay.
The Indian Head Cove and The Grotto, Pick a hot day and be prepared to walk for 30-40 minutes to get to this place from the Cyprus Lake parking lot…. they both are 5 mins apart. The rugged stonescape and the ocean blue waters, nothing gets better than this. This Rocky shore line is filled with some unique stones, also a perfect place to swim, even safe for the little ones, but watch out the water gets deep within 20 feet. Grotto …it’s a huge cave naturally carved by the waves over thousands of years. I love how the sunlight reveals the underwater tunnel it’s something swimmers can’t afford to miss. The water is always cool yes thanks to the location had it been on the Huron side we would had a few deg’s warmer but hey no complaints, I have been in much colder waters.
Grieg’s Caves in Lions Head, is just a 30 Min drive from Dorcas Bay …Oh boy this is another spot you should explore. If you are like me who gets fascinated by the Nature, A good strong LED flash light, a pair of hiking shoes with decent tread, and pick your DSLR’s (Charge those batteries even when they show half and you will thank me for keeping a spare SD card formatted ready to shoot) and get some binoculars for the little ones, you will be witnessing some spectacular views of the Georgian Bay from 300 feet for just $10 in cash.
Ok let me put it this way…. Name Canada’s largest underwater Marine Park or Scuba diving Capital….there you go it’s Fathom Five. 130 Sq km Triangle off the tip of the peninsula it embraces 20 Islands and 22 shipwrecks from as early as 1850. Flower Pot Island is everyone’s favorite. Now you can have a day trip at the Flowerpot explore some caves as you trail and return in the evening. There are some guided tours available- Blue Heron Boat Cruises and Bruce Anchor Cruises, can provide you glass bottom boat tours and you can see the wrecked ships if you don’t want to dive. Light houses, big tub and little tub harbor take a walk up this scenic Bay St have some great fish n chips let the kids enjoy the ice cream or a beaver tail….to top it all off.
2 minutes drive up on this big tub road to the Big Tub Light house is well worth. Constructed in 1885, guess what for just $675….. (Other day I spent $675 on just lag bolts to secure the deck railing posts…. The Original structure was replaced by the Hexagonal 14m high wooden Lighthouse as seen today. This is a very popular scuba diving spot too, Mecca for Scuba divers.
This Big comfortable canoe isn’t just a shortcut to the Manitoulin Islands, it is a very romantic getaway, if you are like me who enjoys fine dinners cruising while the sun goes down….here comes Sunset Dinner Cruise on board M.S. Chi-Cheemann: keep your Mondays/Wednesdays or Sundays for this 4 Hrs dinner cruise for just $50 you can’t go wrong. Chi-Cheemaun is the largest vessel on Great lakes with capacity of 600 passengers and 150 vehicles she can handle anything. If Venus holds a strong position in your astro chart….You could sit and relax on deck or lean by the railing watch those fantabulous sunsets…Reminds me of my ten years spent in the Oceans sailing… I have seen some of those sunsets very few will witness.
Who would not talk about the Singing Sands beach on Dorcas bay….Beat the heat this beach is a part of the Bruce Peninsula national park, 5 minute away from Aqorpions Villa and 10 minute south of Tobermory its located on the shores of Lake Huron, and is Home to Sand Dunes, fen, wetlands, dolostone barrens and cedar swamp.
